Kildare North
Co. KildareKildare North is a fast-growing 5-seat commuter-belt constituency. Its best-known result in 2024 was the defeat of Bernard Durkan, Fine Gael's longest-serving TD in the area, first elected in 1981 — he lost his seat to a field that included two Fianna Fáil TDs (one of them Cabinet minister James Lawless), Social Democrat Aidan Farrelly, Sinn Féin's Réada Cronin and a second Fine Gael seat for Joe Neville.

First-preference vote share by candidate. James Lawless (Fianna Fáil) topped the poll with 15.3%. Bold candidates were elected — final seats are decided by PR-STV transfers, not first preferences alone.
Under PR-STV, surplus and elimination transfers decide the final seats, so a candidate can be elected from well below the quota — or miss out despite a strong first count. .
