Cork North-West
Co. CorkCork North-West covers western County Cork, from Charleville and Rockchapel to Ballingeary and Crookstown, including Kanturk, Millstreet and Macroom. In 2024, long-serving Fine Gael minister Michael Creed (TD since 2007) lost his seat to party colleague John Paul O'Shea, while Fianna Fáil's Aindrias Moynihan and Michael Moynihan (unrelated despite sharing a surname) both retained their seats.
Why this leans Fianna Fáil
The 0.9-point gap between the top two finishers here in 2024 sits on top of a longer pattern: Fianna Fáil's national first-preference vote share has run 39.3% in 1997, 41.5% in 2002, 41.6% in 2007, 17.4% in 2011, 24.3% in 2016, 22.2% in 2020, then 21.9% in 2024 No digitised constituency-level results exist here for elections before 2024, so this is Fianna Fáil's country-wide trend, not a claim about this seat's own history — but a party that's dominated the national picture for this long is a big part of why its 2024 local result, and this lean, look the way they do.

2024 General Election — First Preferences
First-preference vote share by candidate. Aindrias Moynihan (Fianna Fáil) topped the poll with 18.8%. Bold candidates were elected — final seats are decided by PR-STV transfers, not first preferences alone.
Under PR-STV, surplus and elimination transfers decide the final seats, so a candidate can be elected from well below the quota — or miss out despite a strong first count. .
